Kolossos Rodos 68-71 Olympiakos

Poor Start
Our Erythroleukos entered into the Venetokleio stadium or rather they didn't... they were slow to react and poor aggressively. However they justabout managed to get enough plays together to win the game and leave Rhodes with a victory. Kolossos made a hard game for us and went into the first quarter with an early lead (12-7) in the 6th minute. Olympiakos tried to react through Mavrokefalidis and Nesterovic but the opening few minutes were pretty diabolical for us. A quick recovery was made when Spanoulis entered the match along with Erceg and we managed to get the score looking somewhat more respectable at 18-15 at the end of the period.

Spanoulis vital
The entry of Spanoulis into the court was not just key for us but also acted as a catalyst for the team to start acting more correctly. The Rhodian team initially pushed forwards further with 20-18 and 22-20 scorelines but our defence started to sort itself out and afterwards we made an exceptional play and assist through Glyniadakis to Papanikolaou who nailed the shot. We then made an outstanding series of plays running a 17 point break, changing the score from 27-20 to 27-37 by the 18 minute mark and going onto be ahead by the half time break by 32-41.

Kolossos returns.
Unfortunately for us, exactly in the same way that we started the game, we lost all cohesion straight after the start of the third quarter and threw away our advantage. Kolossos took advantage of our poor play to tie the score at 44-44 whilst we just couldn't seem to eradicate our game of the basic errors we had seen over the first quarter. A brief flourish by Erceg allowed us to take the lead again along with some decent play from Glyniadakis but as a team we did not show any real stability. We finally threatened to get going again when we built up a 6 point lead (48-54) but again allowed Kolossos to return into the game and finished the third quarter 55-59 ahead.

Victory...just.
Spanoulis helped us in the final quarter by increasing the score to 59-63 and then 61-65 but after that we allowed the Rhodes side to recover once again and equalise the match first at 65-65 and then later at 67-67. A final effort by Spanoulis allowed us to finally win the game with a 68-71 scoreline but the play from today was dreadful and aside of Spanoulis, no-one played particularly well.
