Olympiakos 2-0 Panionios
We won our match earlier today thanks to two goals from Scepovic and Samaris which put Panionios to the sword. We had an early evening kickoff which meant that I saw the game delayed. The early evening kickoff in the middle of the week didn't help the crowd achieve any sort of decent numbers either but this was to be expected.
It was kind of a shame that there were so few there as we played very well, certainly at the start of the game and Samaris' free kick which he scored from was a superb effort. Scepovic doubled the advantage a few minutes later and Samaris came close again (but wide) all in the first quarter of the match.
The remainder of the half didn't see any let up in our attacking. Scepovic rounded the keeper at one stage only to have the ball grabbed from his feet at the last moment and generally we looked very bright.
The second half saw more attacking play with the ball being cleared off the Panionios goalline at one stage. It was definitely good to see a decent display after the turgid affair on Sunday.
Perez was introduced in the 52nd minute to make his introduction to the team whilst Dominguez replaced Scepovic in the 59th. Scepovic put in a good display today and was unlucky not to have scored more than one goal.
In all, it was a good performance and a decent enough result. I believe that we have Veroia next (Saturday) and we should be really looking for another 3 points then.

Team Announced For Panionios
The team of 18 players for tonights game against Panionios was announced yesterday. There's no real surprises - Nelson Valdez is injured (already!), Perez makes his debut and Bong is dropped because he's shit.

Olympiakos 87-73 Panionios
We made it 12-0 in the A1 Basket championship with another win for the season. This time our opponent was Panionios, playing away in our SEF arena and the final score was 87-73.
The first quarter was a smart bit of play from our team, we took over from early on and quickly reached a double digit lead (21-11), whilst the second quarter followed a similar pattern. Sloukas, Bartzoukas and Hines were the heroes of the first half and Bartzokas in particular got a large amount of points during the second quarter.
The second half continued in the same vein and we kept the lead at 11 points for long stretches of the third quarter. The scoreline bobbled about but finally finished as being +12 (68-56). The game was all set for the final quarter and we never disappointed. Printezis, Antic and Mantzaris all scored three point shots during this last stage and the result was a final score of 87-73. We now move onto Siena!

Panionios 1-2 Olympiakos
We played Panionios in Nea Smyrni during our Matchday 15 tie and went on to win the game by a 1-2 scoreline.
Despite a very cagey opening from our team, we soon recovered and went on the offensive. The first goal was scored by Panionios, against the run of play, by Christos Aravidis after some shit defending allowed him to shoot on goal. We kept the pressure up though and were rewarded with our efforts by an equalising goal some five minutes later. Here Spyropoulos totally miskicked his clearance and pushed the ball in entirely the wrong direction and into the net!! We came close to taking the lead right at the death of the first half but both Djebbour and Modesto fluffed their chances.
We continued to pressurise in the second half and the addition of Mitroglou gave us more of an offensive edge. Mitroglou had two direct chances on goal bounce off the goalpost though and we had real trouble in getting the final ball into the box to one of our players. Panionios also had a couple of chances of their own on goal but largely the game was in our favour. Eventually we got the second goal in the 82nd minute thanks to a Rafik Djebbour knock-in and we looked set to win the game when Panionios were reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards.
The win sees us climb to 11 points clear at the top of the table and ready for the winter break.

Dimitris Siovas Joins Olympiakos
The club has announced the signing of Dimitris Siovas from Panionios on a four year deal. He has played 33 times in the last season scoring 2 goals (he plays as a central defender). The announcement from the club simply stated :-

Olympiakos made a very good performance in the mens polo quarter final against Panionios eventually winning the match 16-7. The win ensures that we go onto the final-4 competition in Argostoli on the 18th and 19th May.

Olympiakos 2-0 Panionios
After a short absence due to me being in Karaiskaiki last week and me missing the opening leg against Rubin due to the playing times, I have time to write a report. The match this afternoon comes from the Giorgos Karaiskakis stadium where we play Panionios on what looks like a reasonably sunny day. Due to the return game against Rubin coming up on Thursday and some suspension and injury problems we have employed a weaker lineup than what was possible but with the players being used, we should have been looking for an easy win today.
Opening to the game
We made a reasonably good opening with plenty of attacking early on in the match whilst Panionios spent the same time defending in depth and crowding out our players in the 6-yard-box. To compensate we won a corner or two but struggled to get anything on target during this time. We held onto the ball effectively in midfield and there was no action at all in our half of the field. Instead we saw yet another team visiting our stadium simply 'parking the bus' in front of goal and defending with all 11 players.
Missed chances
We had a great chance to open the scoring in the 17th minute when a free kick delivered into the net was put directly on the head of Makoun only for him to unluckily nod slightly wide. At the other end of the field, Panionios were starting to get the ball over the halfway line and even up to our own area at times although without any serious threat. We continued to keep a tight hold on the game but found the mass of Panionios defenders difficult to break through and clear chances on goal lacking. Diogo came close with another chance in the 27th minute but his shot from the edge of the box was wide and again he was having trouble breaking away from his marker.
Makoun scores the opening goal
So when the game was in the final 15 minutes of the first half we found that all the play was just around the Panionios box and they had reverted to the tactic of simply sticking all 10 outfield players firmly in the area. Some of our shooting in this period of play also left a lot to be desired but again, we simply could not manage to break into the area due to the mass of bodies.
Eventually however we managed to get the goal we deserved. Panionios player Antunes simply booted Abdoun in the stomach during one of the typical 'challenges' and in the resulting free kick the ball was played into the area. At the end of the ball was Makoun and he managed to nod the ball into the net and open the scoring and hopefully open up the Panionios defence who would now have to attack to even get a point from the match.
Diogo grabs the second
The second half initially saw chances for both sides before we scored a second goal courtesy of Diogo. In this goal, Abdoun had broken into the area from the left and managed to get as far as the left hand side of the post before a chip over the goal allowed Diogo to get his head firmly on the all and to head it cleanly into the net. The second goal allowed us to consolidate our hold on the game and we continued to create chances even after the game restarted. We had a chance to score a third goal shortly afterwards but our pressure never managed to turn into a clear cut chance on goal.
End of the match
The game continued in the same vein with ourselves having full and total control of the game and Panionios totally ineffectual. At this stage of the game however we had changed our style of play to be a little more defensive and although this did let the Nea Smyrniots back into the game a little , they never created anything of note. Well I say this but it was difficult to see what exactly was going on when the Novasport stream kept cutting out and basically playing up.
In fact, the stream got so bad I had to give up and follow the game on the radio. Sorry about that....

In addition to this, Gavros newspaper has made its best guess on the expected lineup. Gavros is usually not too far from the correct lineup so their prediction is listed here.
In goals we are expected to see Megyeri whilst in front of him there is a back four of Torosidis, Papazoglou, Papadopoulos and Holebas. In midfield the two central midfielders are to be Orbaiz and Maniatis and in front of them we have Kazim-Richards on the right wing, Abdoun on the left wing and Fuster in the attacking midfield role. Djebbour completes the lineup as the lone attacker.
Obviously this is a best guess on the part of Gavros and I suspect that we'll be seeing Marcano rather than Papazoglou but it's a good start.
Also it turns out that Maniatis is suffering with flu, expect to see Makoun instead then.
Olympiakos 4-0 Panionios
We played Panionios earlier tonight in the Greek Cup. After the poor display against Xanthi three days ago, the team should have been eager to bounce back with a win and a fine performance to suit. As regards the team lineup, we still had the same problems regarding injuries to players and so the team employed was very similar to the one at Xanthi. It was to be hoped that they would perform a lot better

At the start of the match we did actually play well. We grabbed the ball and went onto the offensive early on, bringing play well onto the Panionios defence. A quick counter attack from the opposition provided a minor threat but we were largely in control of the ball during this early phase. In the 11th minute, we had the first opportunity on goal from a 21 metre free kick and this proved to be the first goal of the match. Pantelic shot the ball superbly over the wall, giving the goalkeeper barely any chance to react and into the back of the net.
Missed Chances
The next big chance for us was in the 16th minute when the ball was passed low across the net but one of our players slipped when trying to put the final touch into an empty net. This was followed in the 22nd minute by a shot wide from Makoun and a 25th minute header from Pantelic. So although we were coming close, we hadn't scored a second goal as yet. Panionios were still making the odd counter attack so it certainly wasn't one way traffic at this stage of the game.

Our dominant style of play continued with ourselves having plenty of possession in the midfield but not making the chances up front unfortunately. Panionios also had their closest chance on goal during this period when they managed to break through the defence but luckily shot wide. We eventually recovered from this shock and managed to play out the time to the 45' mark. It was a good half for us in the main, some problems at times especially defensively but Fuster, Abdoun and Pantelic were at least making up for that at the other end.
Second Half
After the break, it was more a continuation of the same. We had Fuster make a lovely shot on goal in the 48th minute only to see it skim wide whilst Panionios had another good chance from a counter attack minutes later which called Megyeri into action. Our playmaker Fuster was hurt by a poor tackle from Panionios during this time and he required substituting 15 minutes after the restart allowing Diogo to come on and change the system to a 4-4-2 formation.
Pantelic scores again
Once the change had been made, the chances came a little easier (no disrespect to Fuster though who had worked hard!) and we quickly grabbed a second goal. This time, Pantelic (again) broke through the defence following a well timed run, received the ball, set himself up and then shot low into the far back of the net to double the scoreline. As if to demonstrate our supremacy, we also had a penalty turned down in the 71st minute when Diogo was knocked down in the box.

Panionios had not given up in this game though and came forward in the final part of the match to try and grab a goal. Our defence held out and they had to be content with shots going wide or being fired from distance. At the other end though, we scored a third goal and it was Diogo who finally broke his goal drought to the crowds delight, by heading in a corner and making the score 3-0. Abdoun topped his good performance tonight with a goal in the 88th minute. After this we simply finished the game off and ran out 4-0 winners.
Summary
The win here was a stark contrast to the subpar performance of Sunday. We played very well, especially going forward and kept a tight control of the game. Panionios were limited to making quick shots without any accuracy and were closed down reasonably effectively. It'd be interesting to see if we could maintain this momentum for Saturdays game against Ergotelis.

Panionios 0-3 Olympiakos
For the first half, we spent the early part of the game fighting Panionios for possession of the ball. Panionios were the first team to settle into the game though and took the first real chances of the game including a long range effort which Costanzo failed to effectively hold (!!). For our part we were having some real trouble in getting the ball forward and were being closed down too often.
We had our first shot on goal in the 24th minute with a close range effort from Makoun which slides just to the right of goal. Apart from this though, we have been disappointing in the first half. The problem unfortunately was that we could get the ball up the pitch but we were just being marked and closed down too effectively in the final third of the pitch. Luckily for us though Panionios were not getting forward in numbers and so we were easily able to cope with their attacks.
We did get the opening goal in the 33rd minute with a crossed ball from the left. Djebbour managed to break away from his two markers and get a good head onto the ball, smacking it past the keeper. After the problems we have had so far in the match, it was good to get the goal and maybe Panionios would open up a bit more as they tried to chase the game. In fact, they do end up doing so and as a result we score a good second goal. When Panionios are largely down the pitch, we counter attack and fire a long pass to Mirallas. Mirallas simply shoots first time and sees the ball pass the keeper and go into the back of the net.
This action marks the end of the first half, we started off disappointingly but after scoring the first goal, we've looked in control of the game afterwards. Panionios have made very few attempts to come forward and it'd be a serious failing for us if they they even got a point from this game.
The second half saw us start to take over in the game, winning possession, getting the ball forward up the pitch and most importantly having shots on goal. Panionios seemed to be on the back foot for the majority of the time during the early second half but occasionally they managed to get forward to temporarily cause our defence some problems.
The third goal in the match was scored after Abdoun managed to break through the defence on the right hand side. He broke into the area, made a short backpass and it was an easy task for Tzebbour to tap the ball into the net.
With the game now in the latter stages and the victory secure, Abdoun was removed for Monche. Meanwhile on the pitch, it was only getting worse for Panionios and they were having trouble in even getting the ball over the halfway line.
The game finished with us in control of the match and Panionios well and trully pegged back into their own half. The second half has been very easy for us and we've been in control of the entire field during this period. We can move on from this win to the home game against OFI next weekend.
