Training - Thursday 27th January

Our footballing team continued with the training regime that they have been following today. The news for injuries is :-
  • Dudu Cearense and Olof Mellberg followed the larger part of training and immediately afterwards continued with individual training.
  • Moises Hurtado and Nikos Papadopoulos continued with their recovery programs whilst Balasz Megyeri followed an individual program including swimming exercises.
The real reason for reporting this however is due to Charalambos Zelenitsas and Dimitris Terezopoulos (U-21 and U-17 team managers respectively) both watching the training session. From now on, it has been decided that all football teams (senior and youth) will follow the same system and formation. This will allow the progression of our youth players to fit into the senior team without much problem. Obviously we need some continuity of team management to effect this properly but that is another question entirely.

Training - Monday 17th January and more

The weeks training started for our team at 10:30 this morning as we get ready for Wednesdays Cup Game against PAOK. The news from training is :-
  • David Fuster didn't take part in todays training, instead he was taken to the Metropolitan hospital for a scan. The result of this is that he has suffered a minor knock and will be absent from the team for roughly a week. So Fuster definitely misses the cup game against PAOK and potentially the game against Asteras Tripolis as well.
  • Kevin Mirallas and Jose Holebas both trained regularly with the team after recovering from the effects of last weeks viral outbreak.
  • Kristian Nemeth however is still laid low through exhaustion and followed a regime of personal training instead.
  • Dudu Caerense continues to recover from his surgery and has made improvement over the last week or so. He continues to run through personal training in the gym and the grounds.
Olympiakos continue with training tomorrow at 19:00 after which the 18 players for the team will be announced.

Training - Friday 14th January and more

Our footballers completed the weeks training with a final session held today at 7pm. The news from this is :-
  • Firstly Ariel Ibagaza trained with the full team but was deemed unfit to play in tomorrows match.
  • Dudu and Moises Hurtado continued with their individual training programmes and followed up with some gym work.
  • Kristian Nemeth is still recovering from the virus that has laid him low during the week. He didn't make training today and was advised to stay at his house for the moment.
  • Jose Holebas is also suffering from the same viral infection and although he attended the training session, he was given anti-biotics and also won't make the game tomorrow.
  • Avraam Papadopoulos followed an individual training program for purely preventative reasons but was named in the squad for tomorrow.
After training, Ernesto Valverde announced the names of 17 players who have been selected to take part in tomorrows game :-
  • Goalkeepers (2) :- Nikopolidis, Pardo
  • Defenders (7) :- Galitsios, A.Papadopoulos, Mellberg, R.Bravo, Potouridis, Leandro, Modesto
  • Midfielders (6) :- G.Papadopoulos, Fetfatzidis, Rommedhal, Zairi, Riera, Fuster
  • Attackers (2) :- Pantelic, Mirallas
All other footballers will train tomorrow at 10.30am.

As for the latest transfer news, there was a story doing the rounds yesterday that Marinakis had agreed with Valverde that no further transfers are required and that the team is strong enough at the present. This story hasn't stopped the rumour mills from continuing though and the latest news items are that OFI's left back Moniakis is close to signing with the team and will then leave straight away to join Panserraikos or Kerkyra on loan. Another piece of transfer news is that Giorgos Galitsios is close to joining Panionios on loan and joining Mitroglou for the next six months.
A final story is that Diogo is going to be joining the Brazilian club Santos on loan. This final story is very likely to proceed in my opinion and we won't be seeing Diogo at any time soon.

Training - Friday 17th December

I had to get this information almost second hand as it were since there has been no official communique today, however it appears that Dennis Rommedahl has now been officially ruled out of this weekends game. He has instead followed a personal training program and therefore cannot be used in Sundays game.

Kristian Nemeth followed the normal team practice today until just before the end of practice when he took a knock to his sternum. He will be assessed tomorrow and may or may not also be used this weekend.

However both Albert Riera and Moses Hurtado seem to be fit and ready for Sundays match as both followed the regular program.

Womens Volleyball : Olympiakos 3-1 Iraklis

Olympiakos beat Iraklis by 3 sets to 1 and if we ignore the second set, the team played very well in total. Our captain, Elena Koleva has been fighting a fever for most of the week but put together a superior performance scoring 21 points in total today. Apart from this we played well with the service (scoring 11 aces) but also put together a good defensive performance. The victory is not just important for the points but also as a last morale booster before Thursday's game against Galatasaray.

Olympiakos 3-1 Iraklis
1st Set : Olympiakos 25-14 Iraklis
2nd Set : Olympiakos 21-25 Iraklis
3rd Set : Olympiakos 25-9 Iraklis
4th Set : Olympiakos 25-14 Iraklis

Olympiakos : Kyriakidos 11, Kabatha 9, Tsecnevic 16, Ognienovic 7, Hadava 12, Koleva 21, Magginas 1
