Torosidis moves to Roma

Vasillis Torosidis has left Olympiakos and joined Roma in a deal worth only half a million euros to our club. Torosidis had decided to leave the club recently and try his luck abroad after refusing to sign a new contract with the club.
The small amount for our captain is all we could manage after facing the possibility of the player leaving on a Bosman move in the summer.

Team announced for Asteras Tripolis (Cup)

Our footballers completed todays training session in preparation for tomorrows Cup game against Asteras Tripolis. The news as regards the individual players is as follows :-
  • Kristian Nemeth and Dennis Rommedahl didn't recover in time for the game and both players followed individual training in the gym instead.
  • Antonis Nikopolidis didn't take part in todays training as he was suffering from a stomach complaint and also missed out on tomorrows game.
  • Vasilis Torosidis followed part of the training and after he withdrew, continued with an individual training program. This is because he had suffered a knock in the left knee and also misses out on tomorrows game for purely preventative reasons.
  • Dudu Cearense is still in Brazil as he recovers from his recent surgery.
After the end of training, the team of 18 was announced by Ernesto Valverde :-
  • Goalkeepers (2) : Megyeri, Pardo
  • Defenders (7) : Mellberg, A.Papadopoulos, Modesto, Bravo, Holebas, Potouridis, Galitsios
  • Midfielders (7) : Hurtado, G.Papadopoulos, Fetfatzidis, Ibagaza, Zairi, Riera, Fuster

Training - Thursday 11th November

Our footballers continued with their preparations for Saturdays game against Ergotelis (Matchday 10 - Pankritio Stadium) with todays training session. The news to come from today is as follows :-
  • Olof Mellberg followed a program of treatment for his ankle rather than the main training. His injury however seems to have improved and he may well be available for this weekend after all. A final decision is expected tomorrow.
  • Ariel Ibagaza followed his own personal training regime including treatment on his leg and exercise in the swimming pool whilst Raul Bravo also followed a personal training program and will be submitted for a further hospital scan tomorrow.
  • Nikos Papadopoulos increased his training as he prepares to be rehabilitated in the main training sessions.
  • Vasilis Torosidis followed the main team training to a large degree and afterwards continued with individual training in the gym.
  • Kristian Nemeth trained regularly with the team.

Our weekly training will be completed tomorrow (10.00am) and immediately afterwards, Ernesto Valverde will name the 18 players making the journey to Crete. After this announcement, Kevin Mirallas will be awarded the MVP trophy for the previous game against Panionios.

Update on Injuries

It looks like my earlier report on Mellberg was wrong and he has since been submitted for a scan in the Metropolitan hospital. The scan showed that his hematoma has not fully healed and he may or may not be ready for this weekends match against Ergotelis. Modesto (who has since recovered from his viral infection) should be able to take his place if Mellberg is not ready to play.

Holebas looks set to be making a start at left back after Bravo's injury seems to have ruled him out for the weekend.

Torosidis (who I forgot to mention in the earlier report) followed a personal training programme today and should be fit enough to take part in the full team training tomorrow.

Torosidis wants to remain in Piraeus.

According to an interview printed in todays 'Gavros' newspaper, Vasilis Torosidis talked about his career and Olympiakos. I haven't reprinted the entire interview, it is available to read from the Gavros newspaper (www.gavros.gr)  but one of the main points was his career and whether he wanted to remain at the club. The response was that he obviously enjoys playing for us and would even consider playing for the team until the end of his career. He mentioned that he has not thought about playing elsewhere in Europe.
The interview also talked about his contribution to the team with this seasons tally of 3 goals in 9 matches (never a bad amount for a defender!!) and the fact that with a home record of 14 goals for to one goal against, he feels that the fans provide a massive influence and support to the team.
