Training continues

The first portion of the pre-season training is now done with the team returning from Austria yesterday. The overall impression of the facilities has not been great and at least session was cancelled due to the poor water drainage of the pitch. I wouldn't be too surprised if we didn't go there again.
Anyway we now move onto the next phase which sees our team leave for Portugal in a few days time. Whilst over there, we will be playing a mini tournament against some decent quality opposition and the next 10 days or so see us play 3 friendly matches.

Jardim has apparently stated that the team will be evaluated in this phase and after the team returns from Portugal, we will undergo the process of shedding players either with transfers or loans to reduce us down to a squad of 25-36 players. Players rumoured to be going include Javito, Grbic, Katai, Chumbinho, Niklitsiotis and Nemeth but we will have to wait and see for definite.

One player who has definitely gone is our youth team player Panagiotis Stamogiannos. He has joined Kerkyra on a 2 year deal having never managed a senior appearance for our team and was simply an under-21 player for us during his stay with us.

Player list for the Netherlands

Ernesto Valverde has announced the names of 27 players who will be travelling with the team to Ermelo in Holland for the upcoming friendlies :-

Goalkeepers (3) :-
Costanzo, Daskalakis, Megyeri

Defenders
(10) :-
Holebas, Maniatis, Marcano, Mellberg, Modesto, Papadopoulos, Torosidis, Galitsios, Valerianos, Papazoglou

Midfielders
(10) :-
Chumbinho, Fejsa, Fetfatzidis, Fuster, Hurtado, Ibagasa, Katai, Javito, Riera, Yeste

Attackers
(4) :-
Djebbour, Grbic, Mirallas, Pantelic

So the notable absentees who had been given shirt numbers are Nikos Papadopoulos, Niklitsiotis, Rommedahl and Potouridis. These four players may be leaving the club shortly in addition to the 13 names I listed in the news about the shirt numbers.

Training - Friday 28th January and more

More training for our team as they get ready for Sundays game against Olympiakos Volou (17:15 - Panthessaliko).
  • Olof Mellberg and Dudu Cearense both trained fully with the team although Dudu also took an extra individual program afterwards.
  • Moises Hurtado followed gym exercise and a run in the grounds whilst Nikos Papadopoulos continued with his own course of recovery training.
  • Kristian Nemeth was absent from training (with permission).
Away from training, the rumours about Kristian Nemeth being potentially loaned out for the remainder of the season continue whilst there was another rumour that Kevin Mirallas was either close to signing or had already signed a contract with the club to keep him here for the next three years. I haven't seen anything more concrete on this one though.

Training - Thursday 27th January

Our footballing team continued with the training regime that they have been following today. The news for injuries is :-
  • Dudu Cearense and Olof Mellberg followed the larger part of training and immediately afterwards continued with individual training.
  • Moises Hurtado and Nikos Papadopoulos continued with their recovery programs whilst Balasz Megyeri followed an individual program including swimming exercises.
The real reason for reporting this however is due to Charalambos Zelenitsas and Dimitris Terezopoulos (U-21 and U-17 team managers respectively) both watching the training session. From now on, it has been decided that all football teams (senior and youth) will follow the same system and formation. This will allow the progression of our youth players to fit into the senior team without much problem. Obviously we need some continuity of team management to effect this properly but that is another question entirely.

  • Dudu continues with the individual training as he recovers from surgery.
  • David Fuster followed a program of treatment as did Moises Hurtado who had started to feel some pain again. Hurtado misses the game tomorrow due to this relapse.
The squad was announced after the training session finished and these are the 18 players who made it :-
  • Goalkeepers (2) : Nikopolidis, Pardo
  • Defenders (8) : Torosidis, A.Papadopoulos, Mellberg, R.Bravo, Potouridis, Maniatis, Modesto, Holebas
  • Midfielders (6) : G.Papadopoulos, Fetfatzidis, Rommedahl, Zairi, Riera, Ibagaza
  • Attackers (2) : Pantelic, Mirallas

Training - Monday 17th January and more

The weeks training started for our team at 10:30 this morning as we get ready for Wednesdays Cup Game against PAOK. The news from training is :-
  • David Fuster didn't take part in todays training, instead he was taken to the Metropolitan hospital for a scan. The result of this is that he has suffered a minor knock and will be absent from the team for roughly a week. So Fuster definitely misses the cup game against PAOK and potentially the game against Asteras Tripolis as well.
  • Kevin Mirallas and Jose Holebas both trained regularly with the team after recovering from the effects of last weeks viral outbreak.
  • Kristian Nemeth however is still laid low through exhaustion and followed a regime of personal training instead.
  • Dudu Caerense continues to recover from his surgery and has made improvement over the last week or so. He continues to run through personal training in the gym and the grounds.
Olympiakos continue with training tomorrow at 19:00 after which the 18 players for the team will be announced.

Training - Friday 14th January and more

Our footballers completed the weeks training with a final session held today at 7pm. The news from this is :-
  • Firstly Ariel Ibagaza trained with the full team but was deemed unfit to play in tomorrows match.
  • Dudu and Moises Hurtado continued with their individual training programmes and followed up with some gym work.
  • Kristian Nemeth is still recovering from the virus that has laid him low during the week. He didn't make training today and was advised to stay at his house for the moment.
  • Jose Holebas is also suffering from the same viral infection and although he attended the training session, he was given anti-biotics and also won't make the game tomorrow.
  • Avraam Papadopoulos followed an individual training program for purely preventative reasons but was named in the squad for tomorrow.
After training, Ernesto Valverde announced the names of 17 players who have been selected to take part in tomorrows game :-
  • Goalkeepers (2) :- Nikopolidis, Pardo
  • Defenders (7) :- Galitsios, A.Papadopoulos, Mellberg, R.Bravo, Potouridis, Leandro, Modesto
  • Midfielders (6) :- G.Papadopoulos, Fetfatzidis, Rommedhal, Zairi, Riera, Fuster
  • Attackers (2) :- Pantelic, Mirallas
All other footballers will train tomorrow at 10.30am.

As for the latest transfer news, there was a story doing the rounds yesterday that Marinakis had agreed with Valverde that no further transfers are required and that the team is strong enough at the present. This story hasn't stopped the rumour mills from continuing though and the latest news items are that OFI's left back Moniakis is close to signing with the team and will then leave straight away to join Panserraikos or Kerkyra on loan. Another piece of transfer news is that Giorgos Galitsios is close to joining Panionios on loan and joining Mitroglou for the next six months.
A final story is that Diogo is going to be joining the Brazilian club Santos on loan. This final story is very likely to proceed in my opinion and we won't be seeing Diogo at any time soon.

Training - Wednesday 12th January and more

Training continued today for our players :-
  • Moises Hurtado missed out and followed his individual training in the gym instead.
  • Dudu started his individual training as he recovered from his recent surgery.
  • Giorgos Galitsios is suffering from a virus and like the other didn't follow the main training.
  • Kristian Nemeth is even worse, he is suffering from a virus and didn't even get to the training grounds. The doctor has assessed him though and provided a course of antibiotics.
The next training session is at tomorrow 10.30am.

We obviously have a big match against POA in OAKA tonight. My immediate thoughts are on the basketball and I hope for victory tonight. Nothing else, just victory. I will be away until Friday on business so there will be nothing written tomorrow by me.
